History and Tradition.

1001Figurines.com is owned and operated by Hvelplund ApS, a family business and one of Denmarks leading retailers of fine watches, jewellery and porcelain.

The first shop was established in 1971 by watchmaker Erik Hvelplund. Erik recieved his education as a watchmaker in Randers, Denmark. After graduation he spent 2½ year in Switzerland followed by 1½ year in London. Back in Denmark he worked 9 years as a shop manager in an industry related business before opening his own shop in the former Sheraton - now Scandic Hotel.

In 1996 Eriks son Paul Hvelplund joined the family business and only a year later, father and son opened their second shop on "langelinie" (The famous Copenhagen promenade on the pier where all the cruise liners dock). Paul has a degree in economics and in 1995 he completed his education in Germany as a gemologer - also known as DEMG, which means his is a specialist in evaluating and appraising precious gems.

A third shop was opened in 1998 on the City Hall Square in Copenhagen.
